Original Walter Hagen & Gene Sarazen Oil Painting Signed by Artist Robert Fletcher - Framed
Friends, foes or simply fierce competitors at the top of their game, Walter Hagen and Gene Sarazen had their differences. Lore goes that Walter Hagen allegedly chose not to even participate in the 1922 PGA Championship, simply to avoid a head-to-head match-up with the younger Squire who won that year's US Open. Nevertheless the twists and turns of golf history now includes this friendly Artist Robert Fletcher depiction of The Haig and The Squire with clubs in their hands donning time-period jackets and hiked up slacks with pleasant, relaxed while confident looks on the pair's faces c.1924. From the highlight on their cheeks and up the jacket arms to shading on his pantleg folds shielded from the light source, Fletcher goes the extra mile in search of perfection.
Renown golf industry artist Robert Fletcher has dedicated nearly 40 years to refining his craft in the fine arts. His works are exhibited on the historic grounds of Cherry Hills and Colorado Golf Club in bronze busts, prior to participating as a lead artist in a recent Golf Heritage Society Meeting art workshop. His most recent success was work that was used as a tribute to the course architect team of Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw at the Colorado Golf Club. Robert has a unique style, with a mix of realism and and shadowing resulting in an almost a mythic result. A perfectionist, Fletcher's artistic touch starts long before the brush is dipped in paint. Fletcher shared that he used raw stretched linin from Utrecht, Netherlands which is wetted and then applied with specialized rabbit skin glue prior to the artwork starting. This offering is for a tastefully framed original oil on canvas of Walter Hagen and Gene Sarazen by Robert Fletcher, with the prized artist's signature painted in the bottom left hand corner. 17 3/4" x 23 3/4"
