Original Painting of Babe Zaharias by Bart Forbes Used for 1992 Mueller Golf's Greatest Card - Framed
Collectors of sport have turned their attention to original photos with images used for famous cards, even the in some cases ticket that photo was taken (Michael Jordan 1986 Fleer). Of similar ilk to the former, showcased in our digital art exhibit in this lot is the original painting of Babe Zaharias in which the 1992 Mueller "Golf's Greatest Card Set" was produced using! Todd Mueller was the man behind the set idea that since gone by the shortened name of "Mueller Golf Set" in the hobby. Bart Forbes, the renown artist behind the brushing of each original pictured. Zaharias was one of only four in the set that were painted on this larger format prior to Forbes downsizing. Another in this set and with these measurements, Ben Hogan, sold for a whopping $10k a few years back in a private sale.
Bart Forbes works are some of the most acclaimed in his field with representations appearing in top magazines including Time and Sports Illustrated. In 1986 he was the recipient of the Sports Artist of the Year Award presented by the American Sport Art Museum and Archives. Framed tastefully, The Babe's artful depiction is stunning, vibrantly brushed image containing Forbes adding his signature to his work in lower left hand corner. 19" x 27"
