Original Old Tom Morris Oil Painting Signed by Artist Robert Fletcher - Framed

Open Championship winner, club maker, green-keeper, and course designer, Old Tom Morris was perhaps the most influential figure in the history of golf. Allan Robertson taught Tom the golf trade, from making feathery golf balls to clubs. After leaving St. Andrews in 1851 to his new position at Prestwick Golf Club, he eventually returned in 1865. With the new skills learned at Prestwick, Tom went about rejuvenating St Andrews by establishing separate tee boxes on each hole, widening the fairways, enlarging the greens and building two new ones and actively managing the hazards. Tom introduced many of the course design ideas that are the blue print for today's modern designers, creating the 18 hole course (St Andrews had originally 22 holes) and having each nine holes return to the club house. Artist Robert Fletcher depicted Old Tom Morris in a crouched position, studying his putt prior to methodically using his flat stick. From the highlight on the top of his cap and white of his beard to shading in his shirt shielded from the sun by Old Tom's jacket - Fletcher brought Old Tom back to life in this unique artist's impression.

Renown golf industry artist Robert Fletcher has dedicated nearly 40 years to refining his craft in the fine arts. His works are exhibited on the historic grounds of Cherry Hills and Colorado Golf Club in bronze busts, prior to participating as a lead artist in a recent Golf Heritage Society Meeting art workshop. His most recent success was work that was used as a tribute to the course architect team of Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw at the Colorado Golf Club. Robert has a unique style, with a mix of realism and and shadowing resulting in an almost a mythic result. A perfectionist, Fletcher's artistic touch starts long before the brush is dipped in paint. Fletcher shared that he used raw stretched linin from Utrecht, Netherlands which is wetted and then applied with specialized rabbit skin glue prior to the artwork starting. This offering is for a tastefully framed original oil on canvas of Old Tom Morris by Robert Fletcher, with the prized artist's signature painted in the bottom left hand corner. 15 3/4 x 27 3/4
