Original Oil on Panel 'Walter Hagen & Henry Cotton' Painting by Artist Robert Fletcher - Framed
Literally painting the scene at the conclusion of the 1929 Open Championship, highly acclaimed artist Robert Fletcher depicted winner Walter Hagen being congratulated with a handshake by future champion Henry Cotton. Hagen successfully defended his 1928 title, six strokes ahead of runner-up Johnny Farrell. It was Hagen's fourth win at the Open and his eleventh and final major title. At age 36, Hagen played the tournament just twice more in 1933 and 1937. Donning similar dress, popular of the day, the gentlemen are outfitted in sweaters and plus fours with a shirt and tie peeking out of the top.
Renown golf industry artist Robert Fletcher has dedicated nearly 40 years to refining his craft in the fine arts. His works are exhibited on the historic grounds of Cherry Hills and Colorado Golf Club in bronze busts, prior to participating as a lead artist in the recent Golf Heritage Society Meeting art workshop. His most recent success was work that was used as a tribute to the course architect team of Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw at the Colorado Golf Club. Robert has a unique style, with a mix of realism and and shadowing resulting in an almost a mythic result. This offering is for an original oil on canvas of the legendary Walter Hagen and Henry Cotton by Robert Fletcher, with the prized artist's signature painted in the bottom right-hand corner. 20" x 27"
