Original Francis Ouimet & Eddie Lowery at 1913 US Open Underwood & Underwood Photo - Historical Significance With Visual Appeal

Sourced from a recently discovered collection in Massachusetts, not far from the city Brookline and with ties to Eddie Lowrey, was this original photo of Francis Ouimet and his 10-year old Eddie Lowery at the 1913 US Open with stamping from the northeast photography studio of Underwood & Underwood. Among personal trophies and keepsakes from Lowrey was this, widely-regarded as the holy grail of golf photography from the 20th century. Stating the obvious is that this original photograph is a museum piece and one that the masses recognize, as it has been use by the USGA for many branding and promotional opportunities - see their official 'Centennial logo' from 1995 in lot #49. Side-by-side and walking down the fairway, eventual unlikely champion Ouimet has a driver in his hand and a focused look on his face, with the appropriately dressed Lowrey carrying his clubs.

When closely examining this photograph you will notice relatively microscopic traces of actual residue in different spots such as in Ouimet's right eye generated from the printing plate, reference the third photo in this lot. Serial number '158702' is written on the reverse in the same hand as the "Francis Ouimet and his Caddy Edward Lowrey" in pencil just below the mark of Underwood and Underwood from New York. Turn the photograph back around and you will see the serial number written down the left edge of the photo. The picture is clear and in good condition, with aging signs around the edges and those of handling down the right side on the reverse. This 8" x 10" is an exquisite relic, boasting both terrific historical significance and superior visual appeal.
