Original Eddie Lowery at 1913 US Open Oil Painting Signed by Artist Robert Fletcher - Framed

The unlikely victors, yes plural, of the 1913 US Open in a playoff were Francis Ouimet and his 10-year-old caddy Eddie Lowery. Two David's would defeat two Goliath's in Harry Vardon and Ted Ray in a playoff at The Country Club of Brookline as one of the most iconic editions of the USGA championship and birthplace of some of golf's ultimate visuals. Isolated from the crowd holding Ouimet on its shoulders is Lowery depicted by artist Robert Fletcher here - in vintage early 20th-century golf attire, including a flat cap, scarf, and knickers, carrying THE golf bag. The work is executed in a sepia-toned palette with a gestural and illustrative technique.

Renown golf industry artist Robert Fletcher has dedicated nearly 40 years to refining his craft in the fine arts. His works are exhibited on the historic grounds of Cherry Hills and Colorado Golf Club in bronze busts, prior to participating as a lead artist in a recent Golf Heritage Society Meeting art workshop. His most recent success was work that was used as a tribute to the course architect team of Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw at the Colorado Golf Club. Robert has a unique style, with a mix of realism and and shadowing resulting in an almost a mythic result. A perfectionist, Fletcher's work articulates that quite nicely. This offering is for a tastefully framed original oil on board of Eddie Lowery by Robert Fletcher, with the prized artist's signature painted in the bottom left hand corner. 12 3/4" w X 15 1/2" L
