Tom Watson Signed Matting with Painting
Bart Forbes works are some of the most acclaimed in his field with representations appearing in top magazines including Time and Sports Illustrated. In 1986 he was the recipient of the Sports Artist of the Year Award presented by the American Sport Art Museum and Archives. This lot contains the original painting of Tom Watson produced for a set known as "Golf's Greatest Card Set". This was a 1992 issue of Todd Mueller and has since gone by the shortened name of "Mueller Golf Set" in the hobby. The accompanying Watson autograph is considered very tough on memorabilia. In Watson's illustrious career, his eight major championships included five Open Championships, two Masters titles, and one U.S. Open title. The only major that has eluded him is the PGA Championship, which would put him in an elite group of golfing "grand slam" winners that includes Ben Hogan, Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player, Gene Sarazen, and Tiger Woods. In all, Watson ranks 6th on the list of total major championship victories, behind only Hogan, Nicklaus, Player, Woods, and Walter Hagen.
Frame measures 22 1/4" x 29" while the stunning, vibrant painted image of Watson measures 12 1/4" x 19 1/4" with Bart Forbes adding his signature to his work in lower left hand corner.
