Official Harry Vardon Trophy Bronze Medal w/Box - Blank Name
Created in 1937 in memoriam and awarded by the PGA of America to the player with the best average in the PGA Tour events was the Harry Vardon Trophy, in similar fashion to the European Tour's simultaneous recognition. Harry Cooper was the first winner of the Vardon Trophy Award, when from 1937 to 1941 it was based off of points awarded for achievements throughout the season. The award qualifications would evolve from a minimum of 80 rounds played and a PGA of America membership from 1947 to 1987 to a based on adjusted scoring average and a minimum of 60 rounds played on the PGA Tour through the recognition's retirement in 2022.
Here is the thick, weighty and sizable 2 1/4" diameter Harry Vardon Trophy Medal with the famous Vardon grip in shallow relief on the frontside of the 'Harry Vardon Trophy medal. Encircling the verso is 'The Professional Golfers' Association of America' and 'PGA Member with Lowest Official Scoring Average and a blank nameplate. This verbiage would indicate that it was the presented style for one or multiple years between 1947 and 1987. During that span winners included Ben Hogan, Sam Snead, Arnold Palmer, Lee Trevino, Billy Casper, Tom Watson and more World Golf Hall of Famers. It is presented in its original box as depicted in the accompanying lot photos.
