This is the Los Angeles model adjustable club. The patent 1703581 indicated that inventor to be Alphonsus Gavin and not Joe Novak, former PGA president for whom the actual club is named after. Joe Novak was a Southern California PGA Section President from 1949-1951. Joe Novak began caddying at the age of 7 and took his first job as a professional at the age of 16 at Butte Country Club. In 1918, he headed west, ending up in Spokane, WA. Novak competed in the 1922, 1924, and 1925 US Opens and then moved to Bel Air Country Club in Los Angeles in 1927. Novak was the first to teach golf over the radio in 1924. During the Great Depression he attended law school and passed the bar exam.
