Nine (9) 1977 Ryder Cup at Royal Lytham & St. Annes Red Coat Crests inc. Two (2) Team Crests
This lot features a collection of nine vintage blazer patches from the 1977 Ryder Cup. Each piece is meticulously crafted using gold-tone metallic bullion wire embroidery set against a vibrant red velvet ground. The central motif depicts the iconic Ryder Cup trophy flanked by the flags of the United States and Great Britain. The text RYDER CUP 77 is embroidered at the base of each shield. The collection includes seven standard shield-shaped patches and two variations featuring an additional lower scroll with the word TEAM. These patches were produced for officials and participants. The 1977 event, held at Royal Lytham and St Annes, is historically significant as the final competition featuring a team exclusively from Great Britain and Ireland before the transition to a combined European team in 1979. Each patch is finished with a black fabric backing and secured by three gold-tone pin-back clutch fasteners. The patches are in excellent vintage condition. The red velvet remains bright and plush with no significant fading or wear. The metallic bullion thread is well-preserved, retaining its luster with only negligible signs of oxidation consistent with age. All pin-back fasteners are present and functional. The reverse of several patches features handwritten inventory numbers in white ink. These are from the PGA Reach Collection.
