Mickey Wright's 1955 Women's Western Open Medalist Medal

This is one of a scant few Mickey Wright’s golfing Medals to come to the auction marketplace. Presented here is Mickey Wright’s 1955 Women’s Western Open Medalist Medal awarded to her by the Western Golf Association.

Mickey Wright was presented this beautiful Medal when she was crowned Medalist after shooting 145 in the first two rounds of the 1955 Women’s Western Open at Maple Bluff Country Club in Madison, Wisconsin. The medal is engraved on the front with “WGA” and on reverse with “Medalist 1955 Open.” See the various newspaper clippings shown to the left describing her Medalist feat at the halfway mark of this prestigious tournament. Mickey ultimately faded finishing 4th behind Patty Berg, Fay Crocker, and Louise Suggs. This Medal will be accompanied with The Golf Auction Certificate of Authenticity verifying this Medal indeed belonged to golf great - Mickey Wright.

Considered by many historians and fellow golfers to be the Greatest Female Golfer of All-Time (GOAT), Mickey was the winner of 13 Major Championships, 69 LPGA Tour wins, and considered by Ben Hogan as having the best golf swing he ever saw, man or woman! She won four (4) U.S. Women’s Opens and four (4) LPGA Championships in her career. She retired at the age of 34 in 1969 due to a foot issue and her aversion to flying. Remarkably, Mickey staged a comeback in 1973 and won the Dinah Shore before retiring once and for all.

Mickey is one of four individuals to be honored with their own exhibition room at the USGA Museum joining Bobby Jones, Arnold Palmer, and Jack Nicklaus. The U.S. Women’s Open medal has recently been renamed in her honor and redesigned with an image of her iconic swing. This museum quality Medal is a must have for any of the world’s greatest golf collections.
