Medallic Art Company Gold-Plated Centennial of Golf in America Commemorative Medal and Stand
A gold-plated commemorative medal produced by the Medallic Art Company (MACO) to celebrate the Centennial of Golf in America (1888-1988). The circular medal features a high-relief image of a golfer in traditional knickers and cap on both the obverse and reverse. The obverse perimeter is inscribed THE CENTENNIAL OF GOLF IN AMERICA with the dates 1888 - 1988. The reverse is titled Players of the Decades and lists historically significant golfers for each ten-year interval of the centennial period. Named players include C.B. Macdonald, Willie Anderson, Francis Ouimet, Walter Hagen, Bobby Jones, Byron Nelson, Patty Berg, Ben Hogan, Babe Zaharias, Arnold Palmer, Mickey Wright, Jack Nicklaus, Kathy Whitworth, Tom Watson, and Nancy Lopez. The edge of the medal is stamped with the manufacturer mark MACO and the designation G/P for gold-plated. The item is accompanied by a dark-finished wooden display stand featuring beveled edges and a custom slot to hold the medal upright. coin itself is 3" diameter, in stand, 3 1/2" height
