Maureen Orcutt's 1930 British Ladies Amateur Scorecard at Formby Golf Club

The most important golf tournament for women in Great Britain, as it attracted the top players from Europe, North America, and the rest of the world. In the 1930's joined the U.S. Women's Amateur as the height of amateur competition. In 1930, the American star of the day, Glenna Collett would reach the final of match play for the second straight year only to fall 4&3. It would take until 1947, and Babe Zaharias before a competitor from the United States would claim the title. Offered here is American contestant, Maureen Orcutt's scorecard from the matches held at Formby Golf Club. This legendary club was founded in 1884 in Formby, Merseyside, England. After redesigns by Willie Park in 1912 and James Braid in 1922 it was used as the qualifying course for The Open Championship in 1924 before hosting the 1930 women's headline event. In the 1930 match represented on this Formby scorecard marked by Beryl Brown, Orcutt would fall to the English star amateur. Miss Brown a top player of the 1920's who had reached the semi-finals of the British Ladies Amateur in both 1923 and 1925. This item in vg-ex condition with note to tear on lower portion of card comes from the personal collection of Maureen Orcutt.
