Original Leroy Neiman Watercolor Painting of Jack Nicklaus & Caddy Angelo - Framed
Worthy of gallery or museum exhibition is this incredible original work from the king of modern day golf art, Leroy Neiman, depicting Jack Nicklaus, caddy Angelo Argea and Jack's famous 18k gold Rolex. In addition to that lineup are two other Masters Champions in Art Wall and George Archer culminating in one of the highest regarded art pieces we have had the pleasure of presenting.
Passionate American artist Leroy Neiman retained the title of 'world's most popular artist' for nearly half a century, with his pieces energizing the art connoisseur of every type. Capturing the moment in only a way he could, Leroy Neiman was born in St. Paul, Minnesota in 1921 and traveled near and far depicting events until just before his passing in 2012. Neiman's distinct style can be found portraying a variety of subjects, with Golf and boxing among two of LeRoy Neiman's favorite. His great enthusiasm in the subject matter pieces such as this one, '11 AM on practice tee' depicting the legendary golfer and his caddy - Jack Nicklaus and Angelo Argea with his signature grey afro.
The fantastic signed and dated watercolor study represents one of less than handful of original painting that The Golf Auction has offered from the universally celebrated Leroy Neiman. Neiman made his rounds to best capture golf's figures, tournaments and colors in person. Observing from only feet away from Angelo Argea during the sketch in 1976, Neiman was able to pick up the detail which simply notated 'wearing Jack's watch' in the foreground. 'Jack's watch' was actually 'The Watch,' Nicklaus' 18k gold Rolex that he was famous for wearing immediately after each round and during each trophy presentation from 1967 through the rest of his career. In the background, over Argea's left shoulder, are pencil labeled action depictions of three Masters Tournament champions in various stages of the swing sequence - Jack along with Art Wall and George Archer. It is matted and framed to bring out the blue in Argea's caddy attire. Both demand and value of a Leroy Neiman firmly lies in the upper stratosphere of the golf artwork category - a pop art icon that brushed shoulders with the legends to get the point of views needed for his artwork to flourish. 21 1/4" x 19"

When placing your INITIAL bid in the auction, you must agree to the terms BEFORE confirming your bid. All items with multiple bidders in the auction will be eligible for the extended bidding period. Each lot will have its OWN COUNTDOWN CLOCK set for a 30-minute interval, and the clock will extend 30-minutes from the time of the most recently placed bid for that lot. If no bids are placed on that lot during a 30-minute period, the lot will close. Place your bids now!
1. You must place your initial bids BEFORE extended bidding begins to bid on the item in extended bidding
2. During extended bidding, you are allowed to bid only on items you PREVIOUSLY placed a bid on.
3. All lots with only ONE or NO BIDS will automatically close at 10pm EDT
4. All available lots will begin closing on a LOT BY LOT basis at 10pm EDT
Extended bidding starts at 10pm EDT, and each lot will begin closing with its own 30-minute countdown timer. Lots without a bid during extended bidding will close at 10:30pm ET. We recommend you place your maximum bid(s) prior to that time. Thank you
