1937 Augusta National Inv. Tournament Sunday Final Rd Program/Pairing Guide

Saved and preserved from the from the final round of The 1937 Masters is this early pairing sheet relic that predates 99.9% of the examples in the market, even a different design on the delicate time-period paper from the fourth edition of The Masters still under the "Augusta National Invitation Tournament" title. The #1 designated player Robert T. Jones Jr. was paired with 1935 Masters champion Gene Sarazen for the 2:30 PM tee time, while eventual tournament champion Byron Nelson interestingly enough played with the notoriously hot-temped, trash-talking Wiffy Cox many golfers often avoided at 2:15 pm. This "disposable" item from the final year the tournament was named Augusta National Invitation Tournament prior to The Masters as it is known today was discarded with the round finish and a tool patrons used to follow their favorite golfers during the round. Foxing and some paper loss and discoloring are expected condition descriptors for this item, stored in a program since the tournament 85 years ago. A total of seven eventual Masters Champions played that day against the club's co-founder Bobby Jones, with Jones finishing tied for 29th. The verso of this "ancient" pairing sheet lists the Tournament Committee Assignment of Members of Augusta National Golf Club including Clifford Roberts as the General Chairman with G. Herbert Walker from the Bush family on the Rules and Regulations Committee. A combination of Masters Tournament content and impressive ephemera is up for auction in this lot, sure to garner the interest of many.
