1935 Augusta National Inv. Tournament Sunday Final Rd Ticket #2769 - New Find!

Historic as any day in Augusta, this ticket gained admission to Masters Sunday April 7th, 1935 and featured the improbable feat that is simply known as "The Shot Heard 'Round the World!" From 'The Squire' Gene Sarazen's 4-wood on the 235 Yard Par 5 15th Hole, only the 2nd edition of the 'Tradition Unlike Any Other' (Augusta Invitation Tournament) included something that would be almost too good to be true - even at The Masters. Sarazen trailed the leader Craig Wood by three shots at the time, and made them up all at once. It led to Sarazen's tournament triumph in a playoff over Craig Wood the following day over 36 holes - the only 36 hole playoff in Masters history. At the time of his second shot a check for $1,500, the winning prize, had already been written to Craig Wood, who had finished his round. Wood would have to wait another six years before finally winning his Masters title. The Sarazen Bridge at the Augusta National Golf Club is named to commemorate the 20th anniversary of this feat. It remains one of the most famous shots in golf history.

The final day significant event ducat is as rare as Sarazen's albatross in the '35 event, presented in vibrant green and marked in jet black print - original string even still intact! While we have had only two 1935 tickets over our 12 years of longevity, these have been for that week's Tuesday and Thursday and not the day of 'The Shot,' final round Sunday! You will breathe a sigh of relief if you are able to cross this off your Masters ticket want list, this fine once $2.20 ducat sitting comfortably in the category's Mount Rushmore. Many collectors never have that opportunity. This ticket number 2769 from the 2nd Masters tournament presents in very good condition with original string intact nearly free from any detractors, merely a negligible small impression near the ticket number likely from a notary stamping (mentioned simply for accuracy and not to infer a lack of superior condition). The collecting of the ever challenging Masters tickets from the 1930's is red hot now, with a premium placed on tickets in this type of condition and this specific 1935 date/round. Finding Masters tickets which are close to crease free, like this '35, is not an easy task - as we scour the country 300 days a year to find one and many years comes up empty.
