1930 USGA US Open at Interlachen CC SERIES Badge From Jones Grand Slam! - Seldom Seen!

Quickly approaching is the 100 year anniversary of Bobby Jones' feat that will never be duplicated, but you would never know it based on the unimprovable condition of this 1930 US Open SERIES badge from Interlachen Country Club in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The forest green celluloid badge is a means of admission that we have not encountered prior to this auction, and venture to say the majority of our bidders haven't either - especially preserved to looks as if it was just issued. "U.S.G.A." boasts this badge, the backing organization prominently found in a white font across the equator larger than the other text. Each of the three tournament dates, July 10th, 11th and 12th are written directly below this, with the host club and city. Flip the clean saucer over and its original paper insert from the Newark, New Jersey manufacturing company "The Whitehead & Hoag Co" in print fills it up. Limited distribution to select members and honored guests of the club, this exemplar remains one of the only still in existence - its contemporaries with the same clean design remain to be found. Simply put, we have not seen another one.

George Trevor, sportswriter for the New York Sun, would phrase Jones' four Major triumphs in 1930 as Jones "stormed the impregnable quadrilateral of golf." This event captivated the minds of most 1930's Americans whether they were golf fans or not, offering the opportunity to see one of the grandest moments in the Golden Age of Sport, Bobby Jones' accomplishment as the only player to win the pre-Masters era Grand Slam. Amateur Bobby Jones would finish as the only golfer par or better at -1, with runner-up MacDonald Smith (+1) awarded the winner's prize of $1,000. This may be the only opportunity to acquire this prized ticket before it is tucked away in the collection of an advanced collector for potentially decades to follow. A highlight of any ticket, U.S. Open, or Bobby Jones collection. 1 1/2" diameter
