Wallasey Golf Club Red Captain's Jacket Made by John Bell of Liverpool - R&A Tailor
Adorned with gold colored buttons featuring Wallasey Golf Club's "WGC," this red, vibrant Captain's coat is a fine example that dates to the late 1800's, early 1900's. Once commonplace to wear when challenging a prestigious links course in the United Kingdom, being clad in a red coat was more the rule than the exception to it for some clubs. Wallasey Golf Club was co-founded in 1891 by members of the local and prestigious Hoylake. Wallasey played a part in Bobby Jones' impregnable quadrilateral, a qualifying course for the 1930 Open Championship. This male tailcoat is made of heavy wool and presents exceptionally well, as it is in good to very good condition. "John Bell, Liverpool, Ltd" is the manufacturer, as shown on this piece's collar tag. The often damaged silk lining is strong with very little wear, as detailed in the accompanying photos. Although found in numerous pieces of artwork and pieces of golfing lore, original red captain jackets themselves are not easily obtained. The impressive condition of this example that was used a century or more ago just adds to its appeal.

Place your bids now as this auction will close LOT BY LOT beginning at 10:00pm ET Sunday, March 6th. When placing your INITIAL bid in the auction, you must agree to the terms BEFORE confirming your bid. All items with multiple bids in the auction will be eligible for the extended bidding period. Each lot will have its OWN COUNTDOWN CLOCK set for a 30-minute interval, and the clock will extend 30-minutes from the time of the most recently placed bid for that lot. If no bids are placed on that lot during a 30-minute period, the lot will close. Place your bids now!
1. You must place your initial bids BEFORE extended bidding begins to bid on the item in extended bidding
2. During extended bidding, you are allowed to bid only on items you PREVIOUSLY placed a bid on.
3. All lots with only ONE or NO BIDS will automatically close at 10pm ET
4. All available lots will begin closing on a LOT BY LOT basis at 10pm ET
