Vintage Tom Morris Rustless St. Andrews Chipper
This two-way chipper carries the name of St. Andrews' own that some refer to as 'Old Tom' because of his son with the same name, and others 'The Grand Old Man of Golf' paying respect to his greatness, Tom Morris. Faces with horizontal line patterns can be found on either side of this metal shafted club that helped around the green for the creative links style player. This rustless club remains in good condition, as indicated by the accompanying lot photos. The side pin placement attaches the hosel with an inexact fit on the shaft, leading a small gap.
Narrowly defeated in the initial British Open Championship in 1860, "Old Tom" went on to win four of the first eight Open's (1861,62,64,67). On the heels of that success he served as Greenskeeper at St. Andrews from 1865-1904. He played in every British Open to 1896 when he was was 75 years old. An accomplished ball and club maker, "Old Tom" gained much acclaim for his design work with Royal County Down, Lahinch in Ireland and of course Muirfield to his credit. He passed away in 1908 and was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1976.

Pete, along with Dick McDonough, co-authored "Great Golf Collections of the World" and while doing so personally examined and photographed many of the fine clubs owned by Will Roberto being offered here.

Place your bids now as this auction will close LOT BY LOT beginning at 10:00pm ET Sunday, March 6th. When placing your INITIAL bid in the auction, you must agree to the terms BEFORE confirming your bid. All items with multiple bids in the auction will be eligible for the extended bidding period. Each lot will have its OWN COUNTDOWN CLOCK set for a 30-minute interval, and the clock will extend 30-minutes from the time of the most recently placed bid for that lot. If no bids are placed on that lot during a 30-minute period, the lot will close. Place your bids now!
1. You must place your initial bids BEFORE extended bidding begins to bid on the item in extended bidding
2. During extended bidding, you are allowed to bid only on items you PREVIOUSLY placed a bid on.
3. All lots with only ONE or NO BIDS will automatically close at 10pm ET
4. All available lots will begin closing on a LOT BY LOT basis at 10pm ET
