Mid to Late 1880's Forgan Playclub/A. Brown Brassed Driver
Worked by both Robert Forgan and then later Alexander Brown, this clubs carries the uncommon overstrike crown stamp, Brown on top of Forgan. The finely tuned golf club originated as a playclub from the shop of Forgan and then transitioned into a driver containing a brass sole plate and a replacement shaft stamped "Brassey" outfitted with a matching sewn grip. The Bussey grip was patented in the 1890's and dates the club alteration to this time-period. Clubmaker Alexander Brown was the head professional at Dunbar, where he was given a salary of 25 pounds a year and made clubs with John Buchanan. The competent player was known to prove to be a worthy test for Archie Simpson, when Simpson would stop by Nairn (Brown's later club). This unique example tells a story of the product of not one, but two clubmakers with slightly different visions.42"

Pete, along with Dick McDonough, co-authored "Great Golf Collections of the World" and while doing so personally examined and photographed many of the fine clubs owned by Will Roberto being offered here.

Place your bids now as this auction will close LOT BY LOT beginning at 10:00pm ET Sunday, March 6th. When placing your INITIAL bid in the auction, you must agree to the terms BEFORE confirming your bid. All items with multiple bids in the auction will be eligible for the extended bidding period. Each lot will have its OWN COUNTDOWN CLOCK set for a 30-minute interval, and the clock will extend 30-minutes from the time of the most recently placed bid for that lot. If no bids are placed on that lot during a 30-minute period, the lot will close. Place your bids now!
1. You must place your initial bids BEFORE extended bidding begins to bid on the item in extended bidding
2. During extended bidding, you are allowed to bid only on items you PREVIOUSLY placed a bid on.
3. All lots with only ONE or NO BIDS will automatically close at 10pm ET
4. All available lots will begin closing on a LOT BY LOT basis at 10pm ET
