Late 1800's R. Wilson Maker St. Andrews Mid-Iron with E. Sinclair Shaft Stamp
This club stamp was meant to last! Clear as day, upon inspection, a "R Wilson Maker St Andrews" is found on the back of this late 1880's mid-iron head. Robert Black "Buff" Wilson was born in 1869 and known as one of the first eight blacksmiths known to mark their clubs. Wilson started off on the right foot with an apprenticeship under Old Tom Morris beginning in the 1880's and onward. Love for the game was obvious. Robert Wilson was versatile, having a short stint as a professional player, Head Golf Professional at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club (1896), greenskeeper at Minchinhampton in Gloucestershire and shop owner. He patented the Mashie-Cleek along with three other patents for putter designs. Wilson used nails to strengthen his irons. "E. Sinclair" stamp can be found towards the grip of this reshafted club. 40"

Pete, along with Dick McDonough, co-authored "Great Golf Collections of the World" and while doing so personally examined and photographed many of the fine clubs owned by Will Roberto being offered here.

When placing your INITIAL bid in the auction, you must agree to the terms BEFORE confirming your bid. All items with multiple bids in the auction will be eligible for the extended bidding period. Each lot will have its OWN COUNTDOWN CLOCK set for a 30-minute interval, and the clock will extend 30-minutes from the time of the most recently placed bid for that lot. If no bids are placed on that lot during a 30-minute period, the lot will close. Place your bids now!
1. You must place your initial bids BEFORE extended bidding begins to bid on the item in extended bidding
2. During extended bidding, you are allowed to bid only on items you PREVIOUSLY placed a bid on.
3. All lots with only ONE or NO BIDS will automatically close at 10pm ET
