1947 British Amateur Championship - Carnoustie - Sterling Silver Finalists Runner-Up Medal Awarded to Dick Chapman with Letter of Authenticity
Time Magazine crowned Dick Chapman as “The Ben Hogan of Amateur Golf”. He won the 1940 US Amateur at Winged Foot GC and the 1951 British Amateur at Royal Porthcawl. Dick’s career wins also include the Italian, French, and Canadian Amateurs and the prestigious North and South Amateur at Pinehurst in 1958.
Offered here is Mr. Chapman’s 1947 British Amateur Silver Medal, having finished runner-up to Willie Turnesa by a score of 3 & 2 at the famed Carnoustie Golf Links that year. The medal is in excellent condition exhibiting only minor wear. The engraving states “Finalist” representing the 2nd place finisher. The detail and design of this medal is second to none and it comes complete with all of the appropriate silver hallmarks known to accompany British Amateur medals of this era.
Accompanying this treasure is a signed Letter of Authenticity from Dick Chapman’s son, Richard D. Chapman, verifying its historical significance within the family and impeccable provenance. Richard proudly notes that his father holds the amateur record of playing in the Masters on 19 different occasions - clear indication of Chapman’s endearment to Bobby Jones who had a sweet spot in his heart for the best amateurs of the time. A true museum quality golf relic of historical proportions from the mid 20th century proudly presented by The Golf Auction. Measures 1 3/4"
