Bobby Jones 1938 Masters Tournament Opening Round First Tee Shot 4/2/1938
Inclement weather in April at Augusta National is nothing new, with the club's founder Bobby Jones and the field forced to take a rain delay during the 1938 Masters first round. Bobby Jones was captured in this shot, able to get his tee shot off before the play was put on hold in this wire shot. A retired golfer of eight years Jones (T-16) was in 1938, with the exception of select exhibitions and his Masters Tournament of course. The verso photo caption reads: "Rain Postpones Masters' Tournament Opening Augusta, GA - Rain caused a postponement of the opening round of the fifth annual Masters golf tournament here, April 1st. Bobby Jones in whose honor the tournament was inaugurated five years ago, driving from the first tee, before play was called off." This photo is clear, with subtle signs of media usage. 9" x 7 1/4." Seldom is material uncovered from Bobby Jones' play in his Masters Tournament in which he played 12 times.
