Clifford Roberts' Personal Used Spalding Robt. T. Jones, Jr. Custom Made 3-Iron
Simply put, this is one of the finest Clifford Roberts and Augusta National related artifacts existing today. The legendary Clifford Roberts was co-founder in tandem with Bobby Jones of Augusta National Golf Club and served as Chairman of the club for more than four decades, 1931-1976, and was named "Chairman in Memoriam" after his death. Presented in this lot is Robert's personal 3-iron Spalding club in which his name is found in tandem with Jones' once again. With Jones' business partnership with the Spalding sporting goods company, Bobby requested that these be custom forged for his dear friend, and presented this club as part of a set to Clifford. Not only was he the chairman of Augusta National, but he also served as Chairman of the Masters Tournament from 1934 through 1976. In 1977, after being quite ill for many months, Clifford perished on the banks of Ike's Pond by his own hand denying his terminal cancer the opportunity to conclude its cruel work. In a short time after this Clifford's 3-iron in this lot was given to original Augusta National member Jerome Franklin, whos family this comes to us from. Cliff's pitching wedge is proudly presented in a display box at Augusta National. Upon closer examination, you will see Clifford's personal shaft band with his name and "Grandfather G & CC" in Linville, NC, one of Robert's other favorite golfing destinations. Jerome Franklin's grandson's letter of provenance accompanies this lot. Color photo copies of an Augusta National Par 3 scorecard with Jerome Franklin and General Eisenhower can be seen in the accompanying photos in this lot for reference purposes only, along with the inscription from Bobby Jones to Jerome in his book "Golf is My Game."

Place your bids now as this auction will close LOT BY LOT beginning at 9:00pm ET Sunday, July 18th. When placing INITIAL bid, you must agree to the terms BEFORE confirming your bid. All items that have received multiple bids in the auction will be eligible for the extended bidding period. Each lot will have its OWN COUNTDOWN CLOCK set for a 30-minute interval starting at 9pm ET. The clock will extend 30-minutes from the time of the most recently placed bid for that lot. If no bids are placed on that lot during a 30-minute period, the lot will close. Place your bids now!
1. You must place your initial bids BEFORE extended bidding begins to bid on the item in extended bidding
2. During extended bidding, you are allowed to bid only on items you PREVIOUSLY placed a bid on.
3. All lots with only ONE or NO BIDS will close at 9pm ET
4. All lots will begin closing on a LOT BY LOT basis at 9pm ET
