Tom Watson Signed 1975 Open Championship at Carnoustie 12th Hole Flag - 1st Major Win
An exceptional piece of history is offered in this lot. A course flown flag from Tom Watson's very first major victory, an 18 hole playoff to claim the 1975 Open Championship. Not only did this flag fly on the Carnoustie links over 40 years ago, but it also bears Watson's tough signature. In Watson's illustrious career, his eight major championships included five Open Championships, two Masters titles, and one US Open title. The only major that eluded him is the PGA Championship, which would put him in an elite group of golfing "grand slam" winners that includes Ben Hogan, Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player, Gene Sarazen, and Tiger Woods. In all, Watson ranks 6th on the list of total major championship victories, behind only Hogan, Nicklaus, Player, Woods, and Walter Hagen.
