1941 USGA Open at Colonial Country Club Contestant Badge - Craig Wood Winner
Any quality collection of Golf Memorabilia or Craig Wood collection would benefit from the arrival of this commendably clean and visually attractive 1941 Contestants badge which presents in NR-MT condition. The Hall of Famer, Wood with his 1941 U.S. Open triumph on the heels of his 1941 Masters win became the first player to capture the first two legs of the modern grand slam in the same year (since joined by Hogan, Palmer, Nicklaus and Woods). This badge employs the same basic design employed by the U.S.G.A. on each of its yearly Contestants badges in this time frame. The United States governing golf entity would simply change the color scheme of the enamel which encircles the raised U.S.G.A. logo which is boldly centered on the badge. The enamel on this era of Contestants badges is ever condition sensitive, but the black and gold on this 1941 example still shines bright with nary a spec missing from its surface. The reverse displays the stamping of the manufacturer, Robbins Co. of Attleboro, MA and '170.' 1 1/8" x 1 1/4."
