Jack Nicklaus Signed Official Used 1973 PGA Championship Thursday Scorecard - 12th of 18 Majors Surpasses Bobby Jones
A museum worthy golf treasure of desirable proportion. This first round scorecard of Jack Nicklaus at Canterbury Golf Club on August 9, 1973. Jack went on that week to capture his 12th professional Major(14th counting his two U.S. Amateur titles). This win saw Nicklaus' set the record with his 12th professional Major surpassing Walter Hagen's previous record of 11. Of more importance to Jack with that win, were the 14 Majors (counting U.S. Amateur wins) which enabled him to surpass his boyhood hero Bobby Jones for the record under that measuring stick of career success. This card as issued by the PGA for the first round of the third Major ever contested at Canterbury (1940 and 46 U.S. Opens) bears consistent use from traveling 18 holes around the course with Tommy Aaron. This treasured item does show limited residue from a paperclip which was attached to the inside of the card thankfully not impacting the scoring side of card. Duly signed in 10/10 pencil by Scorer Tommy Aaron and Contestant Jack Nicklaus. A letter of authenticity from PGA Historian Bob Denney will accompany this lot. James Spence Authentication (JSA) has reviewed the signatures of Tommy Aaron and Jack Nicklaus finding them to be hand signed by each, with that companies letter of authenticity coming along with this lot as well. Not to be missed this original persona match used Nicklaus item from a significant Major win represents the gold standard of golf collecting.
