1942 Masters Tournament SERIES Badge #280 with Original String - Low Number - Finest Condition Known
There is so much history behind this 1942 Masters Tournament that we're not sure where to begin. This was the final Masters Tournament competition before the postponement due to World War II (the final Major tournament as well). Byron Nelson, the winner of the 1937 Masters, won in a playoff against Ben Hogan (only the 2nd multiple winner after Horton Smith). The 18 hole playoff was refereed by Bobby Jones himself. With the impending war, and the club flirting with bankruptcy for the previous nine years, the 1942 Tournament would turn out to be the most important one in the National's short history to that date. After dropping behind early on in the playoff, Nelson would go on a stretch that seemed cruel in it's perfection, Lord Byron shot 6 under from hole 6 through hole 13. This duel for the ages was 75 years ago, and looking back it seems as though there was more than one victory that day. One for Nelson, and one for Augusta National. This series ticket presents in excellent condition the difficult original string in-place, with only a spot of minuscule paper loss on the reverse side. The cleverly designed scalloped edged admittance ducat of '42 remains in a seldom seen crease free state. A true beauty which would be an upgrade to even the most advanced of collections. This ticket stands head and shoulders above its peers. One of a select few which have survived 78 years after this historic Masters which served as the last tournament hosted by the Augusta National before the course was shuttered for World War II.
