1945 PGA Championship at Moraine CC Program - Byron Nelson Winner
Byron Nelson defeated Gene Sarazen in the first round of the 1945 PGA Championship, and would go on to claim the title in the match play event. This would account for the 8th of Nelson's 11 straight victories in 1945. The WWII tournament saw GI's riding along in Jeeps, taking tips from their favorite golfers and now legends of the game. Byron Nelson's winner's share of the purse was $5,000 in war bonds. Nelson beat former New York Yankee player and all-around athlete Sam Byrd 4 & 3 in the final. Offered here is a program from the tournament in fair condition, showing some dog earring to back top left cover and overall wear to the cover as seen in the pictures. A letter of from PGA Historian Bob Denney will accompany this lot.
