1923 PGA Championship at Pelham CC Program - Gene Sarazen Winner - Rare
The Golf Auction is proud to offer for the first time the exceedingly rare 1923 PGA Championship program. In only the sixth edition of the PGA Championship, Gene Sarazen defended his title at Pelham CC in New York. The tournament showcased a highly anticipated head-to-head showdown between Walter Hagen and Sarazen, 10 years his junior. Gene Sarazen birdied the second extra hole of the match (38th in total), besting Hagen. Walter Hagen would then go on to win the next four PGA Championships.
Remarkably, the 1923 PGA Championship program that is nearly a century old and is marked "25 Cents Per Copy" is contained in this lot. The program is full, with the cover conjoined with tape. A letter of from PGA Historian Bob Denney will accompany this lot.
