1961 Arnold Palmer Open Championship by Artist Bruce Stark Original Pen & Ink on Board

Sports artist Bruce Stark was very well known in the industry and worked for a number of national publications including the New York Daily News, Time, Fortune, Mad Magazine and Golf Digest. This comic was done by Stark in 1961 after Arnold Palmer won the Open Championship for the first time for a national publication. During that period the US track team had been setting world records, therefore tying in both with a proud Uncle Sam smiling and giving a thumbs up in the bottom right hand corner. This is an original pen and ink drawing that has white out spots, since erasing the pen wasn't possible during the original draft and prior to scanning it for publishing. The 1961 Open Championship was a historic one, as it gave Arnold Palmer the Champion Golfer of the Year crown for the first time. It is 11 1/2" by 13 3/4."
