Denny Shute Signed Handwritten Letter w/ Firestone Country Club Content
The life-long Ohio native won the 1933 US Open and back-to-back US Opens in 1936 and 1937. He also was chosen to be a US team participant in the 1931, 1933 and 1937 Ryder Cups. This letter from 1957 takes place between an early collector and Shute. Shute makes reference to a fellow Firestone Country Club member with the same last name as the letter sender. Shute also explains that he is happy to be part of the surgeon's collection of golf "greats" and was a stamp collector himself. The correspondence was all done by hand on the front and the back of the South African surgeon C.A.R. Schulenburg's letterhead. The piece measures 8" by 4 7/8" and is in excellent condition. James Spence Authentication (JSA) has reviewed this signature and their auction letter of authenticity comes with this lot.
