Claude Harmon Signed WWII Newspaper Cut - Seldom Seen
Claude Harmon is widely regarded as the most challenging past Masters Champion's signature for collectors to obtain. The career club professional chose to serve at Winged Foot Golf Club from 1945 until 1978, rather than play on the professional tour. This choice kept his tournament appearances and exposure to the public limited. Few forecasted the golf or sports memorabilia markets being what they are today during that time. Without the intuition to secure a Claude Harmon signature, a majority of the students and friends that he taught at Winged Foot, Seminole and Thunderbird were attentive and focused solely on improving their golf game. This example of the 1948 Masters Champion Claude Harmon's signature is in strong graphite pencil on a single-singed World War II newspaper cut. The piece measures 6 1/4" by 4." James Spence Authentication (JSA) has reviewed this signature and their Full Letter of authenticity #Y69640 comes with this lot.
