1949 Time Magazine with Ben Hogan on Cover - January 10th

The cover of Time Magazine in the 1940's was most often reserved for world leaders and royalty. Ben Hogan fit neither when he received the honor for the January 10, 1949 issue. He had risen to golf royalty in 1948 winning both the US Open and PGA championships and this made him magazine worthy when Time Magazine showed up at Riviera C.C. to cover his appearance at the PGA stop that January. Four pages were dedicated to him in the magazine including a time lapse sequence of his swing which had already reached mythic proportions. Within a month of this cover, his game at the height of success would come to a quick halt on a Texas highway in a near-fatal automobile accident. The issue of that famous Time Magazine is offered here complete. 8 1/2" x 11 1/4"

AUCTION CLOSING RULES:

This auction will end at 9:00pm EST Sunday, August 4th with EXTENDED BIDDING to follow. All items that have received multiple bids in the auction will remain open until no items have received a bid within a 15 minute time period (at 10pm EST, the countdown clock will be adjusted to a 5 minute interval)

1. You must place your initial bids BEFORE extended bidding begins in order to bid on the item in extended bidding
2. During extended bidding, you are allowed to bid only on items you PREVIOUSLY placed a bid on.
3. All lots that are active in extended bidding will close at the same time, and those with only ONE or NO BIDS will close at 9pm EST
