Circa 1880's Robert Forgan Putter with R. Forgan St. Andrews Shaft Stamp - C.R.M. Initials


Offered here is a Robert Forgan putter with a St. Andrews shaft stamp. The putter measures 34 1/2" to the heel and comes in great condition, showing very little wear to the head, please see photographs. The initials C. R. M. appear on the head and the shaft stamp reads "Robert Forgan & Sons St. Andrews." This putter appears to be from the 1880's. Robert Forgan was the nephew of Fife clubmaker Hugh Philp. Robert joined Philp in the clubmaking business in the year 1852. Forgan had great skill in working with and identifying quality wood for clubmaking. Forgan took over the business and employed his younger brother James to assist after his Uncle's death.
