1927 Harry Cooper at US Open Photo
Harry "Lighthorse" Cooper was an English-American golfer who was considered one of the best to never win a Major tournament, despite winning 31 times on the PGA Tour. After winning the inaugural Los Angeles Open and finishing the final 18 holes in just 2 1/2 hours, sportswriter Damon Runyon dubbed him "Lighthorse Harry" after Lighthorse Harry Lee, a cavalry officer for the Continental Army in the American Revolution (the father of General Robert E. Lee.) Presented here is a black and white photograph, not an original or wire photo, that measures 7 3/4" x 10" in great condition of Cooper at the 1927 US Open. Cooper lost the tournament to Tommy Armour in a playoff.
