Five 1925 US Open Photos - MacFarlane with Trophy, Bobby Jones, Tommy Armour
Here we have five photos from the 1925 US Open that measure ~8 1/4" x 11 1/4" of the winner Willie MacFarlane, Bobby Jones, and Tommy Armour. Willie MacFarlane won the U.S. Open at Worcester Country Club, beating Bobby Jones in not one, but two 18 hole playoffs. Of interesting note, Jones was getting set to hit an iron shot in the first round when he felt his club move the ball ever so slightly. With Jones being his only witness, it was up to him to be the judge. Jones said he was certain the ball had moved and therefore penalized himself. The decision may have cost him the title, but it has been a mainstay to Jones's legacy. After the adoration came from fans about his sportsmanship, Jones replied tongue-in-cheek "You might as well praise me for not robbing a bank." These photos will add nicely to any collection.
