1938 Amateur Public Links Contestant Badge - Cleveland #250


Employing the design which the United States Golf Association would use on it's Championship Contestants badges from the early 1930's until 1959. This example displays a top condition front with nary a scratch to the white and yellow enamel facing which reads, "CONTESTANT" and "AMATEUR PUBLIC LINKS GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP" "CLEVELAND" "1938". Also boldly present on the front of this gem is embossed "USGA" for the sanctioning United States Golf Association which oversaw this event. Stamped on the reverse of the pin is "ROBBINS CO ATTLEBORO" its manufacturer. Pin has dimensions of 1 1/4" x 1 3/8". Championship was contested at Highland Park Golf Course and saw Al Leach defeat Louis Cyr by the slimmest of 1 up margins to claim the champions medal.
