Bobby Jones Inaugural 1934 Masters Tournament Follow-Through Original Wire Photo
Photographed on March 22nd, 1934 at his Augusta National Golf Club the day of the first round of the inaugural Masters Tournament, Bobby Jones made his return to competitive golf after being retired for four years. He is pictured here on that day in which he would card a 76 and while it isn't dated and the caption is no longer affixed to verso, this same image has been auctioned with that caption that cements the significant time and place of ANGC Masters Tournament on March 22, 1934. What is the perfect swing? Bobby Jones had it. This is his famous follow-through full-body shot photographically depicted for Cosmopolitan Magazine's story on the 1934 Masters - or Augusta National Invitation Tournament as it was called. This is a 6 x 8” original wire photo by Acme newspapers. “Cosmopolitan Magazine” is also written on the back. Nice detail on his sweater and under magnification it appears the crown of his club bears the Robert T. Jones Jr. signature found on his Spalding line of clubs. The crystal clear shot remains in good condition with some edge wear as shown in the accompanying lot photos.
