Ceramic Art Co. Hand Painted Blue Beer Stein
Per the book Decorative Golf Collectibles by Shirley & Jerry Sprung, “Walter Scott Lenox founded the Ceramic Art Company in Trenton, NJ in 1889, but Lenox assumed complete control around 1895. In 1906, the name was changed to Lenox China Company. This pre 1906 piece contains the old CAC mark.
The golfing figure is addressing a ball in the rough and is modeled after Horace Hutchinson. Images of Horace Hutchinson that originally appeared in The Badminton Library of Sports and Pastimes were used as source material for a series of golf related steins made by the Ceramic Art Company.
