1916 Pinehurst Sterling Silver St. Valentine's Tournament for Women Treasurers Trophy
Here we have a Pinehurst Golf Club 1916 Valentines Day tournament trophy in the form of a porringer.
The engraving to the outside of the bowl is “Saint Valentines Tournament for Women, Treasurers Trophy, Pinehurst N.C. , February 12, ’16 , Won by Mary T. Van Cleef. The famous Pinehurst emblem graces the bottom of bowl.
The overall Valentines Day tournament for women on this day was won by Dorothy Campbell Hurd. In the fourth division for this Treasurers trophy Mrs. Van Cleef of Poughkeepsie defeated Mrs. C. F. Lancaster 3 and 2.
The trophy was crafted by the Alvin Corp Sterling Co. and bears their name as well as “sterling’ on the bottom of the bowl.
Overall a nice early Pinehurst trophy from a tournament won by a famous women golfer ( Hurd) that is uncommon in form and typifies the relative opulence of Pinehurst golf trophies of the time. 8"L X 5" w x 1 3/4" h
