Tiger Woods Signed Original Bill Waugh Oil on Canvas 2000 St. Andrews Claret Jug Painting

It is well documented how difficult it is to obtain Tiger Woods autograph on a golf ball. The difficulty factor rises to a stratospheric level when you attempt to get Tiger to sign an original painting. This handsome vintage portrait by the noted studios of international artist Bill Waugh has accomplished just that. The work is an oil on canvas painting which depicts Woods in a portrait view proudly holding the claret jug, his award as the 2000 champion golfer of the year from the Royal & Ancient. Waugh portraits are highly desired with the offered example remaining in superb original condition. The seldom seen signature of Woods on original art has been placed directly on his image with noted golf artist Waugh penning his work in the right hand corner. On the verso of the canvas the artist notates "Tiger Woods Open Champion 2000 Original Oil Painting by Bill Waugh 2003". Measures 20 x 29 1/2"

Bill Waugh in his consignment to The Golf Auction noted this about his special moment getting Tiger to sign his artwork, "This painting was one of two that I did for The Golf Club Managers Association of America to be presented on their behalf to the R&A, but much to the surprise of the GCMAA the R&A St Andrews chose instead the painting of his victory at Hoylake which now hangs in the British Golf Museum St Andrews. Hoylake obviously didn’t want one portraying his victory at St. Andrews, so I was able to retain this piece for my personal collection, until now. Tiger eventually signed this for me at Isleworth. The Tiger Woods original signature was damaged whilst cleaning and re varnishing, which you can see for yourself on the painting. I was standing right next to him when he signed it, and he even commented on how young he looked! Funnily enough this was my first ever portrait and I think one of my best. I don’t know if you’ve ever noticed but you never see portraits with the person posing with a smile and Tiger has got a big smile, artists don’t like teeth!". James Spence Authentication (JSA) has reviewed this signature and deems it to be authentic with note to artist's repair.
