A Golfers Gallery By Old Masters Album In Custom Clamshell


This lot features the famous ‘A Golfers Gallery by Old Masters,’ with Bernard Darwin introduction. This highly desired and seldom seen book includes eighteen (18) high quality color plates/prints of Old Masters golf paintings. Produced by London Country Life Ltd. and complete with a custom and expensive clam shell specifically made to house this highly collectible circa 1927 art gallery presentation book. The paintings depicting golfing scenes from the 16th through to the 19th centuries in different forms on card-stock leaves.

The book measures 16" x 13 1/2" and the illustrations include the following: 1. St. Nicholas’s Day by Jan Steen (At the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam) 2. A Girl with a Golf Club by an Unknown Netherlands Artist. Painted in 1595 (At Holdenby) 3. Mr. William Innes, Captain, The Royal Blackheath Golf Club, 1778 by Lemuel Francis Abbott, R.A. 4. Mr. Francis Bennoch, Captain, The Royal Bkackheath Golf Club, 1860-1861. From an oil painting at Blackheath (At the Club) 5. Pleasure on Ice by Esaias Van de Velde (At the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam) 6. Mr. John Taylor, Captain, The Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers by Sir John Watson Gordon, P.R.S.A. (At the Club House, Muirfield, Gullane) 9.
