This was the original photo used in the famous colorized print by publisher HO Quinn of London with the towering Royal & Ancient clubhouse backdrop for Bobby Jones on the St Andrews 18th green in the 1930 Amateur Championship. Examine and you will observe high definition throughout the highly detailed photographic composition. Take a look at photo #1, compare and contrast - down to the gentleman sprawled out on the green on the right side. Bobby Jones would capture his first of four legs of the Grand Slam at St Andrews, depicted with competitor Cyril Tolley in the as they were all square, prior to downing George Voigt in the semifinals and Roger Wethered in the finals 7 and 6. This photo was stamped just two weeks after the May 31st finish, June 15, 1930 just below the verso adhered caption. Media edits include the blue smoke coming out of the clubhouse smoke stack along with a white/blue ink edit just to right. Nothing short of an iconic photo from Jones' Grand Slam stop at the hallowed ground of St Andrews is represented by this lot, set to join a new collection - that of the winning bidder's.
