JH Taylor Signed 1943 Handwritten Letter w/ Harry Vardon Content - June 14th
Five-time 'Champion Golfer of the Year' John Henry (JH) Taylor (d.1963) handwrote this humorous missive to his doctor, single-page note that is heightened with a flowing signature at its conclusion. Taylor states that now being able to swing freely, it will rival that of Harry Vardon's. The letter was dated by Taylor June 14th, 1943. A member of The Great Triumvirate, the original "Big 3," with Harry Vardon and James Braid, Taylor would win his incredible 5th and final Open Championship title over the defending champion Ted Ray by 8 strokes.
"I shall expect after taking a full course of the medicine, to be so free that my 'follow through' will rival that of Harry Vardon and no one will be able to identify JHT on the links when making his drive his severely restricted 'poke' having entirely disappeared." Taylor then signs off with 'kindest regards' and 'Sincerely Yours' JH Taylor. As transcribed above, Taylor signs his initials in the body of the letter. James Spence Authentication (JSA) has reviewed this signature and their auction letter of authenticity (ALOA) comes with this lot.
