1958 Horton Smith President of the PGA Speaking Original Jasper Nutter Photo
Keeping order in the PGA of America meetings, Horton Smith gripped the gavel as PGA President between 1952 and 1954 term. This photo was published in Professional Golfer magazine and shot by Jasper Nutter as shown on the backside referencing his former presidency. Horton Smith will forever be known as the champion of the first Masters two decades earlier in 1934. He added a second win at Augusta in 1936 among his 32 career PGA triumphs. In 1930, he was the only player to defeat Bobby Jones in his Grand Slam season. Smith was also a top player in the early Ryder Cup competitions appearing in five consecutive events from 1929-37. The World Golf Hall of Famer was the first past Masters Champion to decease when he passed away in 1963 at 55.
