Champion Marty Furgol's 1951 Western Open Gold Watch w/Chain
Here is Marty Furgol's prized 1951 Western Open Winner's pocket watch - Furgol's 2nd of five PGA Tour victories. In celebration, with the hosting Western Golf Association shield carefully engraved is Furgol's prize from the tournament then widely considered the '5th major.' Recipient 'Marty Furgol' is also engraved on the casing, a Accutron Quartz pocket watch which which exudes class.
Marty Furgol had backed up his 1951 Houston Open with another significant triumph that year - a 10-under par single stroke victory over World Golf Hall of Famer Dr. Cary Middlecoff at Davenport Country Club just outside of Pleasant Valley, Iowa. Furgol won his second tournament of the year, topping another WGHOFer Jackie Burke in Burke's home state at the Texas Open. Furgol was also part of the 1955 Ryder Cup and despite being from the same town of New York Mills and born only a year apart (1916 & 1917), was not related to Ed Furgol.
'Marty Furgol - WESTERN OPEN - CHAMPION - 1951' is engraved verso the WGA logo on this roman numeral golden Swiss dial with a hour, minute and second hand. It is a reminder of excellence and Furgol's performance that week over 75 years ago. This gold-tone base metal watch does not currently work and is protected with base-metal case with engraving.
