1940 US Open at Canterbury Multi-Facsimile Signed Portage GC Red Cross Print - Framed

The pre-war USGA event with the best in the world 85 years ago was the 1940 US Open held at Canterbury Golf Club just outside of Cleveland Ohio. Winner Lawson Little defeated runner up finisher Gene Sarazen in an 18 hole playoff. The Herb Strong course design opened its doors in 1921 and played host to the 1946 US Open, along with 1973 PGA Championship as well. Presented in this lot is a field facsimile signed print and high-quality reproduction using the original. Signatures range from participants such as champion Lawson Little to golfing legends Bobby Jones and Babe Zaharias in the main artwork of a painted monkey holding a town next to Jones' famous Calamity Jane putter. Matting around the work, also part of the print and single sheet of paper with facsimile signatures, makes mention to the nearby Ohio Portage Golf Club Red Cross Golf Exhibition between Jimmy Demaret, Byron Nelson, Al Espinosa and Ed Kerley on Aug 15th, 1943 - three years later. Local Ohio golfers that were labeled 'All-Akron' even have their facsimilie signatures across the baseline of the work. Second best to just the original, this stunning and oversize presentation piece with deep ties in Ohio and US Open golf is matted and framed tastefully in tan and gold-tone finish. Please inspect accompanying lot photos for a detailed condition report. 27" x 34"
