Ky Laffoon's 1934 St Paul Open at Keller GC Sterling Silver Runner-Up Medal

The 1935 Ryder Cupper Ky Laffoon won ten times on the PGA Tour from 1930-1946. Four of those came in 1934, when the Zinc, Arkansas native was runner up in the St Paul Open to Johnny Revolta and received this Sterling Silver medal. Routinely fielding one of the deepest and star-studded tournaments of its day was the St Paul Open. The tournament was played at St Paul, Minnesota's Keller Golf Course between 1930 and 1967. Extensive engraving is found on the verso of this medal in stylized font. '2nd Prize - 5th Annual St Paul Junior Association Commerce Open Golf Tournament - July 13 to 15 - 1934 - Ky Laffoon.' Below that is the Sterling Silver hallmark from the local St. Paul company. The frontside post-swing golfer loosely resembles Bobby Jones in his plus fours, as many golf awards and likenesses did in the 1930's. 'Saint Paul Open Golf Tournament' encircles the golfer in relief with laurels setting the edge, '1934' engraved below and presented on a chain. Curators and historians of Minnesota's rich golf history are inundated with the importance of both the Saint Paul Open, which ran from 1930 until 1969, and Keller Golf Course in Maplewood soon to celebrate their 100th anniversary of golf (est. 1929).
