1959 Letter To Bobby Jones From Architect George W. Cobb w/ANGC Par-3 Course Content
Addressed to Robert T. Jones Jr., Augusta National Golf Club Co-founder, George Cobb details Course Architect ANGC aerial shots that Cobb ordered just prior to the 1959 Masters. "The obliques of the Par-3 (course) are excellent. The others add nothing to the charm of Augusta National and I am afraid the photographer got overly enthusiastic over the cottage used by the President (Mamie's Cabin)." Cobb goes on to mention that the other photos not used will be disposed of as Jones desires. Finally Cobb mentions that the airplane view shot facilitator was Lt. Colonel Homer E. Shields who he would thank personally at the Masters in 1959 for his work heading up the Fort Gordon military police at the tournament. This letter was typed and ballpoint pen signed by George W. Cobb on his personal letterhead to Jones the year after on March 6, 1959, he designed the Par 3 Course on Augusta National Golf Club grounds. Significant content from the course designer to the great Bobby Jones is found in this missive.
